CLASS 6M

Term 4

Year 6 have been hard at work preparing for their SATS. They have completed many practice papers and have impressed us with their resilience and determination.

In Science, we have been exploring the effect that diet and exercise has on our bodies. We conducted an experiment to see how our pace changed after completing several laps of the playground.

As part of our topic on Rivers, we completed a week-long project on bridges. We investigated strong structures and made prototype cuboids using straws. We were carefully taught how to use a hack-saw and then made sturdy cuboids out of wood and hot glue. We all thoroughly enjoyed this project and are looking forward to testing the strength of our bridges next term.

Term 2

Year 6 have had a very busy term. In Maths, we have learnt all about fractions and have been adding, subtracting, dividing and multiplying them, as well as working on some tricky word problems. We have continued to enjoy our Victorian topic and finished our term by reading A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. We all wrote our own opening to a Christmas Carol 2, imagining what Christmas at the Counting House would be like, a year later.

In Science, we have been investigating light. We found out how light travels by looking through a bendy hosepipe and trying to make a torch beam shine through a pin hole in card. We have also investigated reflections by using mirror to see objects behind us.

Term 1

Year 6 have had a very busy start to the academic year. We have begun reading our fantastic novel, Street Child, which is about a young orphan called Jim Jarvis. We have enjoyed exploring the Victorians and looking at how they made the railways and having a go at creating our own artwork in the style of William Morris.

In Science we have been investigating electricity and have made several circuits to test the effect of various components.

At the end of term, we were treated to a workshop from the Fire Service on how to provide basic first aid. We all enjoyed practicing CPR and putting each other in the recovery position.
