SEVERE WEATHER PROCEDURES

Birchington CEP School

  • Birchington CEP School will do its best to stay open regardless of weather conditions. However, if the school needs to close or if any information needs to be given to parents regarding severe weather,  parents / carers should access information via the Kent County Council website: www.kentclosures.co.uk

  • Information from the KCC website will also be passed to local radio stations Radio Kent and Heart FM for announcements to be given

  • We will also endeavour to send parents a message via our texting system and place relevant updated information on our website

  • In extreme circumstances and it starts to snow heavily during the day you will need to use your discretion regarding where you live or your travelling arrangements to school as to whether you collect your child early. If you wish to do this you will need to contact the school office in advance

  • During the snowy and icy weather please ensure you take care when walking around the school site. Although we do our best to grit main pathways it is very likely that places may be slippery

  • Please ensure your children are suitably dressed with extra layers, waterproof coats, hats, gloves and scarves etc. It may be useful for your children to wear Wellington boots to school and extra socks, carrying their indoor dry shoes in a bag for wearing in school
