Mr. Ian Cousins  

Iain is the Chair of Governors on the Governing Body and has two daughters in the school. He has a keen interest in the educational well being of the children at the school and the direction the school is taking.  He is also the Chair of the Governing Strategy Committee, Lead Governor for KS1, Maths and Governor Training.

As a Process Safety Engineer, he works with engineering projects, management systems and strategic planning and undertakes Health and Safety audits around the world.  These are all skills he brings to the Governing Body to help develop the strategic direction of the school and ensure targets and strategic objectives are met.

 

 

 

 

 

Mr. James Whiddett

James is the Vice Chair of Governors and has two boys at the school. James is the Health & Safety Governor for the school.

In his spare time when he is not at work as a Manager in Kent County Council or spending time with his boys, James likes to ride his bike, go for a swim or join in with a game of five-a-side football after work.   

 

 

 

 

 

Ms Kath Barham

Kath is the Headteacher of the school and as such is a member of all the Governor committees. She naturally has an interest in all aspects of school life and enjoys working with the pupils, staff, Governors and the larger school community. Kath has been at Birchington since April 2007 and has overseen many changes with the aim of making our school an outstanding one. Kath came to Birchington after being Headteacher of Sheldwich Primary School in Faversham for six years, before which she was Deputy Headteacher at the same school. Kath’s first teaching post was at Dame Janet Junior School in Thanet.

 

 

 

 

Mr Jonathan Forwood

Jonathan is the Deputy Headteacher of the school and is a member of all the Governing Body committees. He has been at the school since January 2011 and is looking forward to working closely with Ms Barham and the Governors to help make this an outstanding school. Prior to joining us he worked at Herne Junior School and Bridge & Patrixbourne Primary School. Before having a career in Education he worked in the City of London in various financial institutions. 

 

 

 

 

Mrs. Carol Torry

Carol is a Parent Governor and has held the position since October 2007. She is responsible for the Early Years Foundation Stage and Science and shares in the responsibility for Information Communication Technology (ICT) across the school. She is also the Chair of the Governing Recources Committee.

Carol is a teacher by profession and has two children here at the school.

 

 

 

 

 

Mr. Mark Prescott

Mark is a Associate Governor and has previously held the post of Chair of Governors. He currently has one child in the school and his other child recently left for secondary school.

Mark works as a Health and Safety practitioner and as such plays a key role in the Resources Committee.

 

 

 

 

 

 Ms Loraine Bant

 

Loraine has been a Foundation Governor in the school since July 2009 and takes particular interests in the Christian and spiritual aspects of the school. She also takes responsibility for over seeing Child Protection, Additional Educational Needs, E-Safety and Well Being within the school. Loraine is Chair of the Governing Learning & Development Committee.

 

Loraine is a very busy lady as she is also a Deputy Headteacher at Ellington & Hereson Secondary School !

 

 

 

 

 Mr Paul Webster

 

Paul is our third Foundation Governor and he also takes a particular interest in the Christian and spiritual aspects of the school.

In his spare time, Paul is a local Scout Leader and enjoys fishing.

 

 

 

 

 Miss Sarah Howard

 

Sarah is the Staff Governor and has worked as a teacher within the school since 2005 and is currently a teacher in Year 6.

 

 

 

 

Mrs. Felicity Stafford

Felicity is Clerk to the Governors, and was once a teacher herself but is now retired. She enjoys a variety of interests one of which is reading.
