Dr Zahida Pavern
Doctor Zahida Parveen is the
Chair of the Governors. She has three children, two attend Birchington CEP and the eldest attends Chatham House. In 2003 Zahida received an award from Kent County Council for her work with the Governing Body. She has a passion for educational excellence and a commitment to deliver enduring improvement at the school. Zahida is a qualified
dentist, graduating from Bristol University in 1988, and works part time in a specialist orthodontic
practice in Margate and Canterbury. Zahida is a warm and friendly person and is always happy to meet parents, so please say hello if you see her around the school.
Mr Tony CarpenterTony Carpenter is the
Vice Chair of Governors and has been a Governor at Birchington CEP since 2001. Tony is also a
parent governor at Ursuline College where his daughter, who was a pupil at Birchington, is now in year 10. His wife Meg is a Learning
Mentor at Birchington CEP as well as being an ICT Teaching Assistant. Tony's primary role
as a Governor is within finance and property and he strives to make a positive difference to the facilities available to
the children at the school.

Reverend Don WittsDon started working life as a lecturer in
an art college, teaching ceramics, he then became a Director of Art in a Prep School in Shropshire,
and in 1986 went to St. John’s College Durham where he trained to become a
minister in the Church of England. He has always had close connections with schools
throughout his career , but Birchington is his first Church of England Primary and he enjoys the opportunity to forge strong links between Church and School.
Mr.
David Walton
David is
a parent governor and has served in this position for three years. David was a
teacher for over 20 years and is now a School Sports Co-ordinator in Thanet.
David likes to pay particular attention to PE and Eco-School Projects. He works
with the Finance Committee and is also involved with the curriculum and school
appeals. David's eldest son Tom is now a pupil at Ursuline College where he
excels in sport and French, he really enjoyed his time at Birchington CE Primary
School. David has two younger sons still here, Owen in year 6 and Josh in year
3.
Dr.
Bob Hinge
Bob is a
local authority governor. He served for eight years as a parent governor and
then after a one year gap became an LA governor, a position he has now held for
eleven years. Bob was Chair of the school governors from July 1998 until
December 2000. Bob is also a governor at Clarendon House Grammar School in
Ramsgate. Bob is now retired after a long career at Pfizer where he worked as a
Technical / Development Manager. He is very interested in improving the
standards of Maths within the school and belongs to the Finance and Personnel
Committees. Bob's two daughters both attended Birchington CE Primary between
1983 and 1991.
Mrs.
Carol Torry
Carol is
a parent governor and has held the position from October 2007. Carol is a
teacher by profession and has two children here at the school. She is
responsible for humanities and shares in the responsibility for Information
Communication Technology (ICT).
Mr.
Mark Prescott
Mark is a
parent governor and has been with the school for a little over a year. He has
two children at the school in Year 4 and in one of the foundation stage classes.
He works as a health and safety practitioner and as such pays attention to
health and safety within the school along with governor training and
development. Mark is a member of the Finance, Curriculum and Property
committees.
Mrs.
Hazel Peskett
Hazel is
an associate governor and has been with the school for six years, four of which
where as a parent governor. Hazel has two children at the school in Year 5 and
Year 6. Hazel works as a teaching assistant and is particularly interested in
assisting the gifted and talented pupils and those with other additional
educational needs. Hazel is chair of the Curriculum committee.
Ms Kath Barham
Kath is
the Headteacher of the school and as such is a member of all the Governor
committees. She naturally has an interest in all aspects of school life and
enjoys working with the pupils, staff, governors and the larger school
community. Kath has been at Birchington since April 2007 and has already
overseen many changes with the aim of making our school an outstanding one. Kath
came to Birchington after being Headteacher of Sheldwich Primary School in
Faversham for six years, before which she was Deputy Headteacher at the same
school. Kath’s first teaching post was at Dame Janet Junior School in Thanet, so
she is really pleased to be back working in the area. Kath is very well
qualified for the role with a BAED (Hons), an Advanced Certificate in Management
and Education and the NPQH.
Mrs. Julia Morgan
Julia is
Clerk to the Governors and Personal Assistant to Kath the Headteacher. Julia
works as a clerk on all the Governor Committees and has been in the position
since January 2008. Julia has been PA since September 2007 and was previously
employed by Kent County Council for six years at Clover house where she was
involved within the specialist teaching service. Julia has two daughters
studying at Barton Court Grammar School in Canterbury.
