Below is our policy within this school regarding internet and email use, our first priority being to protect the safety of our children.Any images of children are not labelled with their names. No close-up pictures of our children, or pictures of children in clothing such as p.e. Kit, are available online. Children and staff never reveal their personal details, and/or home postal or e-mail addresses and/or telephone numbers on the Web or in dialogue with other Internet users. Children do not have individual e-mail addresses, and no access is allowed to Internet e-mail accounts such as Hotmail. The class teacher moderates all e-mail to classes. Children do not engage in conversation or dialogue with other users on the Internet or e-mail without permission or supervision from their teacher. E-mail conversations are carried out in a manner comparable to speaking to a person face-to-face, with manners, courtesy, respect and common sense. Contents of e-mails are subject to the Data Protection Act and the Computer Misuse Act. Suspicious e-mails containing attachments are not opened because of the risk of viruses. A teacher or the ICT coordinator is informed immediately. Children never arrange to meet, in person, anyone with whom they have communicated via the Internet or e-mail. Any child finding him- or her self-uncomfortable or upset by anything they discover on the Internet reports this to a teacher immediately. Children using the Internet and e-mail are only allowed to use the links provided in school. The use of Search Engines, is not permitted, unless in the presence of an adult in school. Downloading of files is restricted to staff, or children under supervision. Children have no access to Newsgroups or Chat Rooms. Children do not subscribe to mailing lists as this can lead to unwanted junk mail. The Internet Service Provider and Search Engines used by children at Birchington C of E Primary School all offer a filtered list of links. All Internet access at Birchington C of E Primary School Primary School is filtered through a proxy server to screen undesirable sites at source - the I.C.T Technician is the only person who can disable this facility. In the interests of security, Birchington C of E Primary School Primary School reserves the right to make a detailed log of access to its own website, including details of users' Internet Service Providers and details of their computer systems.
