During Term 2, 2D were very busy travelling around the world with Buddy the Bee as their companion. The class visited each continent and completed different styles of Art work inspired by places around the world.
On Thursday 12th December, 2D also voted in the Birchington CE Primary election. Everyone made an anonymous vote for either Science Day, Art Day or ECO day and placed it in the ballot box. The following day the whole school results were announced and everyone is now looking forward to Science Day during Term 3.
At the end of term, we made Nativity Scene collages using scrap paper. We thought carefully about what we know from the Bible about Jesus’ birth and showed different parts of the story through our pictures.
We have had a very exciting first term in 2D! We have been lucky enough to have some visitors into school to help us with our learning.
At the start of term, we had a visit from Ian at KIC theatre. He ran a drama workshop with us to help us with our learning about the Great Fire of London. We used our drama skills to sweep Thomas Farriner’s bakery, try to escape the fire and even try to put it out with leather buckets and water from the River Thames.
We also had a visitor from Pfizer’s to help us with our Science learning. We used a UV light to see how effectively we were washing our hands. We also carried out an investigation using some slices of bread to see how the germs on our hands spread to whatever we touch. After a few days the bread that we had touched went very mouldy!
At the end of term, we were lucky enough to have a visit from the Fire Service. They even brought a fire engine for us to look at! We found out about all of the different equipment that is on board a fire engine as well as the special clothes that the fire fighters have to wear. Before they left, we each got to sit inside the fire engine – the ladder was very tricky to climb!
