In English this term we have been reading ‘The Littlest Viking’. For our hook lesson, the children all painted Viking longships, using just a description from the text.
In Understanding the World, we have been learning about the Vikings. We have used different types of pencil to create tone and texture in our sketches of Viking longships.
We have also been learning how to perform percussion music by changing the tempo. We practised using waves we had drawn where we played faster when the wave was high and slower when it was low. We then wrote and performed a 4-line Viking song in groups.
This term we enjoyed French Day. We learnt how to count to 10 in French, made spinning wheel calendars using the French months and sang head, shoulders, knees and toes in French. We also learnt how to say, hello, goodbye, please, thank you, sorry, you’re welcome and a variety of other common phrases in French.
On Science Day we took part in 3 different activities. We learnt how planes can fly and the forces the balance of different forces to fly. We then made our own paper planes to test how far they could fly. We also investigated how to make the best parachute.
We took part in a scientific investigation to see what happens to skittles when you add water. We found out that the colour comes out of the skittles and into the water. This is because the sugar coating of the skittle dissolves in water.
This term is Science we have been learning about our bodies. In groups, we put together our own skeleton and learnt some of the names of the bones. We explored what bones protect, support and help our bodies move.
As part of our Roman topic we designed and created Roman vases out of clay. We carved our designs into our vases and then painted them using colours similar to those used by the Romans.
For Enterprise week Year 3 had fun baking and decorating bauble cupcakes to sell at the fair. We each made a special box to put a cupcake in for our families to buy, as well as lots more cakes for everyone. We also made posters to advertise our cakes and stuck them all around the school.
In Science we have been learning about magnets. We designed and created our own magnetic board games and had a lot of fun trying out each other’s games.
In Year 3, we have been reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl. We have enjoyed exploring Mr Wonka’s factory and designing our own!
As part of our home learning, we bought our factories to life by creating our own chocolate rooms! Some of us even decided to use real chocolates and sweets! We have displayed them in our corridor, although it is very tempting to go and eat them!
As part of our Understanding the world we have been learning about the Romans. We learnt about Roman mosaics and how they made them. We tried to use a similar technique and created our own.
In Science we have been learning about different forces. We went outside to play on the equipment to explore what different forces we were using. We found that climbing up the ladder used the force push and pull.
We celebrated Michael Rosen Day and learnt about all the different books and poems he has written. We read his poem chocolate cake which was very funny! We then wrote our own chocolate cake poem, and to give us some inspiration, ate some chocolate cake too!
