Prayer Space in School

This week we have been so lucky to have been joined by Naomi, Trevor and all the volunteers at Prayer Space for Schools who have set up in the Rossetti Hall. Each class have two opportunities to visit and have been so inspired to think about how they might communicate through prayer and how we can work together to create our own prayer spaces like these.

Virtual Author Visit to Year 3!

Yesterday, Year 3 had an amazing opportunity to attend a virtual live author event with Alex Falase-Koya! He is a children’s author who has written the series of books ‘Marv’ and has also co-authored with Marcus Rashford ‘Breakfast Club Adventures’ and as you can imagine, the children were very excited about this as they have either read his books or recognised them!

The children had the opportunity to submit questions prior to the event that Alex could possibly answer live. They all thought carefully about this… here are some of their questions: Why did you become an author? Do you get worried or scared when writing a new book? Who is your favourite character you have created? Was it fun writing a book with Marcus Rashford? What do you like reading?

The children thoroughly enjoyed this and learnt a few tips and tricks for writing their own stories too!

World Book Day 2025

Today we celebrated World Book Day. The children had great fun completing a range of activities including reading sessions with younger/older children, making their own book marks and also taking part in the BBC’s Live lesson.  Mrs Highsted and Mr Forwood really enjoyed seeing all the costumes and chose someone from each class to receive a certificate, although in both Year 4, The Chipmunks, and in Year 6, Thing 1, 2, 3 and 4, the winners were a group of girls.  Everyone enjoyed a really fantastic day celebrating books.

Y2 church visit

Year 2 visited our lovely local All saints Church today. The children had a wonderful time meeting Rev Mark and exploring inside the Church. The children were able to volunteer to act out a wedding and a baptism so that they really understood what makes these ceremonies so special. They all listened so intently and asked some interesting and thought-provoking questions.  Their behaviour was impressive and they walked very sensibly there and back. We are very proud year 2!

Express Yourself Day!

Today, we celebrated 'Express yourself' day to finish up our 'Good To Be Me' week. Safer Internet Day

Today was Safer Internet Day at Birchington CEP School and at lots of other schools across the country. We started off with an assembly all about this year’s theme of ‘Too good to be true? Protecting yourself and other from scams online’ which was run entirely by our E-Safety Reps (with a little preparation help from Miss Kirkpatrick). Children across the school took part in a BBC live lesson, Year 5 and 6 were visited by our local PCSO, there were lots of activities that the children did in class and Year 2’s ‘Come and See’ session was all about Safer Internet Day! And we loved the idea of the floating island in the Great Barrier Reef, complete with base camp, bedrooms, living area, hideout and an intricate intruder alarm system! What brilliant imaginations!

Remembrance Service

Harvest Celebrations

Throughout the week of our Harvest Festival celebrations our children found out more about this special Christian festival and their Collective Worships were based on the theme of Harvest.

Our Christian Vision talks about showing love and care for everyone. To help us live out this vision we wanted our children to think about others in our local community. Our families were so generous and donated items of food that were displayed in classrooms or year group areas allowing the children to understand more about food and harvests.

We were absolutely amazed by how many donations we received throughout the week and were delighted to donate these to Birchington Baptist Church foodbank. It truly was a super example of Christianity in action! Thank you for all your support!
