Making It Real  

As we implement our new French curriculum, are providing fun and exciting opportunities and new experiences such as: role play, weather forecasts from France and celebrations of national days. See some pictures of the fantastic work that we produce in our lessons below!

Partner School

Our children work closely alongside a partner French School in La Chapelle. In the past, we have welcomed them into our school in Year 4 and had the exciting opportunity to travel to France and put all of our learning into practise in Year 5. Although we didn't visit during Covid, we still kept in touch by exchanging letters  show off our fantastic language learning!

Visitors

Last year, we had a French theme day with a native French speaker, a teacher from a local secondary school. This provided our children with a valuable real-life experience and the opportunity to hear and communicate with a native French speaker.

Displays

We have French working walls in our classrooms to aid our week to week learning. We also have French displays around the school to encourage discussion and raise the profile of French.

French Workshop

Year 3 and Year 4 had a super opportunity of experiencing French learning with Madame T who visited our school for the day! Year 3 learnt the story of ‘The Hungry Caterpillar’ in French and learnt how to say all the different foods that the caterpillar ate its way through! They then recreated the storyboard with all the information they had learnt! Year 4 learnt all about the supermarket, or in french - le supermarché - and what items can be bought in the supermarket. They were very excited about learning how to buy un gateau and le chocolat. 

This year, as a whole school, we have created French Christmas cards to send to our French link school in La Chapelle! 😊

We thoroughly enjoyed creating these and cannot wait to see the ones we receive from them. It has been a great start to the festive celebrations! 😊
